4 School Organization & Highlighting Tips

1. Color Code Your Folders
Color Coding is the best way to stay organized throughout the school year. Personally, I assign a color to each class. For example, Math is red and I go down the line to purple for Drama.
If you use this method you will always be able to quickly recognize which folder corresponds to your next class. This is especially useful when you have a short time between classes to go to your locker, and you are running late.

2. Coordinate Folders, Binders, & Notebooks
Like the first tip, you should also color code your binders, folders, and notebooks the same color according to each class. For example, Math can be red, and History can be yellow, etc.

3. Clean & Replace Old Materials
It is so important that you clean out your backpack, folders and binders! You should be able to start fresh each semester without having loads of old assignments everywhere. Obviously, there are some things that you cannot get rid of due to upcoming finals, but make sure to clean out as much as you can. If you do not want to throw away that work just yet, keep an “old work” bin and label it. You can put this bin, filled with your old assignments under your bed, or even in your closet. It’s an easy way to keep everything together without having it take up so much space in your backpack.
You should also renew your old supplies! If you need more highlighters, paper, or pencils, go to the store and restock.

4. Use Highlighting Tricks
In Middle School, I was introduced to a new way of highlighting large chunks of information. With this cool tip all you need are three different highlighters and the information that you are trying to highlight!
I used green, yellow, and pink, but any three colors will do the trick. In this case, I highlight the main information green. This includes any essential questions along with the corresponding answers, key points and main information. You can use yellow to highlight all of your vocabulary and definitions. Last but not least, use pink for any cool facts, or extra information that may help you out in a future test or writing assignment.
